Well I cannot quite believe how swiftly this month has gone. Stating the obvious but, it's the end of January 2013 already! My one exam of the season is done and dusted so now I can only sit and wait for the marks. Last week I went back to my old secondary school to conduct a psychology project, very interesting to be on the other side of the fence, enjoying a coffee in the staffroom. It's amazing how different it felt to be there without my peers, and how much younger the lower school seemed! I am currently analysing the results from this research, into individual perception differences in children's emotional conduct, peer socialising and hyperactivity among other aspects using Goodman's (2005) Strengths and Difficulties questionnaires.
I am also just beginning my lectures for the semester on Shakespeare - an individual I (shock horror), don't particularly like or understand, although obviously he has made an enormously important contribution to English literature and the development of language around the world, so I guess I should cut him a little slack! It's still early days through my course however so I suppose I should not write it off too soon. In other news, IT'S SUNNY! Finally Swansea, South Wales has been greeted with a few rays, after weeks of greyness and drizzle. Perhaps another poem will be in order for this occasion, but for now, in my very jolly mood (the weather really does make an amazing difference!) I best get out for my lectures to sample the air. Christmas and New Year came and went in a flash, as to be expected with imminent essay deadlines and exams for final year. I finally submitted my essay related to the module that began the creation of this website - 'New Communication Technologies in the US'. It reminded me how quickly the second half of last year went. It was 6 months ago now since we set off for the great adventure to Colorado to learn about media, journalism and the hands-on aspects behind it. It was an amazing month settling into a new country and university, with the Rocky Mountains an enviable backdrop to wake up to every morning. My summer holds amazing memories of all the countries I was lucky enough to visit and the variety of people I met from so many different walks of life.
The different personalities you meet and situations you get into while travelling become part of an adventure, however one which seems almost surreal in hindsight! Being able to put yourself into other peoples shoes, and make decisions as you go along is all part of a character, sometimes like acting. I have just finished a longer poem as part of an English module that involves just that, as the author I had to understand a situation and explain from another perspective; to engross myself in uncertainty about the future in order to live today. There is something so exciting about that, but which I, as I'm sure many people, do find difficult. Live as best you can for today and then, with a little help, the future will sort itself out! Now back to the essays and consideration of job hunting as I myself wonder what to do after graduation. But first, to start planning next summer's adventures! |
